Frequently Asked Questions

Do You Take Insurance or Medicare?

Insurance: No, we are out-of-network with all insurance plans. However, we do accept HSA/FSA cards and can generate a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Medicare: No, we have no relationship with Medicare. As a result, we can only offer & render non-covered services. This may include wellness visits, fitness training, massage, cupping, dry needling. If the care that you require is medically necessary, then we will be happy to provide you with names of practices in the area where you can be seen.

Is There A Travel Fee For Mobile?

Yes. This is because traveling takes time out of our treatment schedule where we can no longer see other patients. Under 10 miles: $50.00 Over 10 miles: $100.00

Do I Need a Referral to be Seen?

Florida Direct Access allows for a Physical Therapist to evaluate and treat appropriate musculoskeletal and neurological conditions without a referral.  Having quick or immediate access to your physical therapist can make the difference in your condition being temporary and quick to resolve. Should your condition be found to be outside of the scope of a Physical Therapist, you will be referred to the appropriate practitioner of record.

Will I Receive Dry Needling?

Not everyone is medically appropriate to receive dry needling. Out of an abundance of caution, we do not perform dry needling on pregnant patients. Additionally, not everyone wants to receive dry needling. If you have a fear of needles, then we do not ever have to use dry needling in your plan of care.

How Many Sessions Should I Expect in Total?

Typically, patients feel significantly improved after 4-6 sessions and most patients are seen 2 times per week for the first 2 weeks, then wean to once per week for the next 4-6 weeks. As you progress, we begin reducing the frequency of sessions. While relief from pain is an excellent indicator of improvement, it often takes more than 6 visits to address the actual root cause of the problem. We find that most patients achieve long-term transformation after 10-12 visits.

What Conditions Can You Treat?

We have experience treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Shays takes a special interest in conditions of the head, shoulder and low back pain. She is one of the few physical therapists in the state who take a personal interest in craniofacial conditions and orofacial pain (Bell's Palsy, Trigeminal Neuralgia, TMJD, migraines/headaches, etc). Dr. Shays also has experience with various neurologic conditions, as her career began in stroke rehabilitation.
